The Furama opened in 1997, which makes it older than some of the people staying here — and somehow the most interesting thing about it is how well it's aged.

The Furama was the original luxury beach resort in Da Nang, back before Non Nuoc had a Hyatt or a Marriott or an InterContinental. It built the template. Every time a new resort opens on My Khe and mentions 'Da Nang's growing luxury scene' in its press release, the Furama has been here doing it for 25+ years already.

What I like about the Furama is the frankness of the value proposition: you're getting a proper five-star beachfront resort at rates that are 30–40% below the newer competitors. The 1997 aesthetic is present — the colonial motifs, the warm wood tones, the slightly dated spa design — but it doesn't feel neglected. It feels like a well-maintained older property that knows what it is.

There's also the dual-property access thing, which is a genuine differentiator: staying at the Furama gives you access to the Sandunes Beach Resort & Spa next door, which doubles the pool and wellness options available. That's not a small thing when the main complaint about any beach resort is fighting for sun loungers.

Location & Getting There

My Khe Beach, 5km south of the city centre. Better city access than Non Nuoc — An Thuong and its cafés and restaurants are 10 minutes away, the Han River seafood strip is 15 minutes. Airport is impressively quick at 12–15 minutes. The beach here gets busier in peak season than Non Nuoc, especially with local Vietnamese beachgoers on weekends, but the resort's own frontage is managed well.

The Rooms

Two categories of accommodation worth distinguishing: the main tower rooms and the bungalow/villa categories at garden level. The tower rooms show their era more clearly — the design is late-90s Southeast Asian luxury, not unpleasant, but you feel the years. The bungalows and pool villas at ground level are more tropical in character and age significantly better. If you're booking the Furama, ask for the lower-garden bungalow categories rather than the tower for a much better experience.

Rooms are large (50–60sqm in most categories). Bathrooms are well-specified. The beds are good. Rates from around $100/night represent the best beachfront five-star value in Da Nang.

Pool, Beach & Facilities

Three pools across the Furama property plus access to Sandunes' separate facilities next door — in total you have more water options than most competitors. The main lagoon-style pool is large, shaded at various points through the day, and doesn't feel overwhelmed even when the resort is full. The beach service is consistent with what you'd expect at a long-established resort: it's all worked out over the years.

Food & Drink

La Maison 1888 is the upscale Vietnamese restaurant and the food quality is genuinely there — better than the price point suggests. The all-day Café Indochine does a strong breakfast with an extensive spread at a notably higher quality-to-price ratio than the newer competition. Beach bar, pool F&B, and a range of day options. Family dinner at the main restaurant runs comfortably under $40pp including drinks — a fraction of what the Marriott or Hyatt equivalents cost.

The best value beach resort in Da Nang's established name tier. The dual-property facilities access is a real differentiator. You're not getting the same experience as the Marriott or Hyatt — but at 30–40% less per night, you're getting most of it.

The Good Stuff

  • My Khe position — better city access than Non Nuoc
  • Large rooms even in standard categories
  • La Maison 1888 restaurant quality is above what the rate suggests

Worth Knowing

  • 1997 design aesthetic is visible throughout — especially in the tower rooms
  • Gym equipment needs an update
  • My Khe beach is busier at weekends than Non Nuoc
