It's one of the more reliable luxury chains in the world, and you broadly know what you're getting whether you're in Da Nang or Paris: properly finished rooms, attentive service, and a club lounge that's actually worth using. The Sun Peninsula location makes it something different, though. Set inside the protected Son Tra Nature Reserve on a forested hillside above a private bay, it was designed by architect Bill Bensley with a specific brief: develop a resort without destroying the jungle. The downside: Son Tra is 20 minutes from the city, so restaurants or nightlife beyond the resort require a taxi each way.
