The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026 returns May 30 to July 11, bringing together 10 international fireworks teams, four of them competing for the first time, for a season expected to light up the Han River straight through summer.
Global Competition Returns with Fresh Highlights
Held under the theme "Da Nang - United Horizons," this year's festival features teams from nine countries and territories: Vietnam, China, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France, Japan, Macau (China), and Australia.
The four newcomer teams should bring fresh artistic styles to a competition that's grown fairly predictable in recent years. Vietnam is represented by the Da Nang Fireworks Team and Z121 Vina Pyrotech, keeping a local presence in a field dominated by international pyrotechnic specialists.
Organizers are betting the mix of veteran teams and debut acts makes for a more competitive, less scripted season. DIFF has become Da Nang's flagship cultural export, and 2026 is meant to reinforce that reputation while pulling in travel demand during the city's busiest stretch of the year.
The festival also lands at a moment of broader change for the city, following the provincial merger and expanded regional connectivity. Organizers expect the participation of established teams from Macau and Japan to push performance standards higher across the board.
Six Competition Nights, One Unified Story
DIFF 2026 unfolds over six themed competition nights, tied together by a storyline built around Da Nang's growth and transformation.
Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee and head of the organizing board, says the city is treating DIFF as a long-term pillar of its tourism, trade, and entertainment strategy, not a one-off spectacle. Beyond the fireworks themselves, a run of satellite events is designed to keep the night-time economy busy and grow MICE tourism.
Concerts, art performances, river cruises, street entertainment, and night food events are all built to keep visitors in town longer and spending more. Over the next five years, city planners want DIFF to function as both a cultural showcase and a driver of tourism-led growth.

Tourism Sector Eyes Strong Summer Momentum
Da Nang's 2026 tourism stimulus program rolls out in phases through the year. Between February and April, the city is pushing craft village tourism and wellness-focused travel, while May and June carry the summer peak campaign, anchored by the Da Nang Food Tour Festival, the Enjoy Da Nang Festival, and DIFF 2026.
Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, says the 2025 festival pulled in more than 1.88 million visitors, up 26 percent from DIFF 2024, including nearly 770,000 international arrivals. Revenue from accommodation, dining, and travel services reached an estimated 5.6 trillion VND (213 million USD), nearly double the year before.
For 2026, the city is targeting 19.1 million visitors: 8.7 million international and 10.4 million domestic, with a parallel push to improve visitor experience and get people coming back.
Technology-Enhanced Festival Experience
Technology is a bigger part of the pitch this year. Sky AR lets audiences interact with the fireworks displays and personalize what they see through their phones.
Laser LED projections across the Han River and surrounding buildings add a second visual layer, while real-time audio synchronization means spectators get the full music-and-fireworks experience from anywhere in the festival zone, not just prime viewing spots.
DIFF is being positioned as more than a fireworks competition: the centerpiece of an extended summer festival season with cultural, sports, and entertainment programming running across the city.
Companion events like River Fest, Beer Fest, and programming tied to the Sun World destination ecosystem are meant to turn Da Nang into a city-wide festival space for the summer.
