There are certain bars across Southeast Asia that make you think a film crew should be setting up in the corner. The 1920's Lounge is one of them. The performers and bands who play here (jazz, acoustic, R&B, rotating nightly) are legitimately good. Not background noise. The kind of talent that makes you check their Facebook page the next morning to see what you missed.

Classy cocktails, bottle service, hookah if you want it. The room is cozy and cinematic at the same time. For a city defined by its beaches, this cityside lounge is the perfect change of pace, or the right nightcap after a long day in the sun. My favorite date night spot in Da Nang, and it isn't close.

Pound for pound, the best combination of view and beer in Da Nang.

Plenty of bars in this city have a good view. Several have decent beer. East West is the only place that delivers both at a genuinely high level simultaneously. The taproom sits directly on My Khe Beach: floor-to-ceiling glass, 1,000 sqm of space across four distinct areas, and the Pacific Ocean filling the frame. The beer is the real thing, a serious brewing operation with a rotating lineup built around a consistent house IPA, Pale Ale, Lager, and Ale. These are not hotel-lobby cocktails dressed up in pint glasses. They are well-made, properly conditioned craft beers that would hold their own in any city.

Come in late afternoon. Order a flight or a cold pint, take a seat facing the beach, and watch the light change over the South China Sea. That specific combination, cold craft beer, My Khe sand, the city behind you, is not something you will find anywhere else in Da Nang. Even if you never normally seek out craft beer, it is worth visiting for what East West does with the setting alone.
