First-Time Visitors — 2026 Guide

Where to Stay in Da Nang
for a First Trip

Don't spend three nights researching Da Nang neighborhoods. For most first trips, My Khe is the answer.

Editor's Top Pick

My Khe Beach
is the default answer

Six kilometres of sand. The biggest hotel selection in Da Nang. Sunrise over open ocean. The An Thuong restaurant district a five-minute walk behind the hotels. Grab to the Han River in fifteen minutes, Son Tra in twenty, Hoi An in forty.

My Khe doesn't ask you to understand the city before you've arrived. The beach is outside your hotel. The food is a short walk. Everything else is a cheap Grab ride away.

If someone emailed us and said they've never been to Da Nang and asked where to stay, our answer is My Khe. Every time.

Why My Khe?

A first-time visitor to Da Nang doesn't need to decode the city before booking a hotel. My Khe solves that by stacking everything in one place.

  • Beach outside your hotel door
  • Massive hotel range from midrange to luxury
  • An Thuong restaurants, bars and cafes a 5-minute walk
  • Sunrise over open ocean every morning
  • Grab to Dragon Bridge, 15 minutes
  • Grab to Son Tra viewpoints, 20 minutes
  • Grab to Hoi An Old Town, 45 minutes
  • Airport is 10 minutes away
  • You are not trapped in a resort bubble

Best Overall for First-Time Visitors

My Khe Beach

This is the safest recommendation because it gives first-time visitors the version of Da Nang most people came for. Beach. Hotels. Food. Easy transportation. Staying here doesn't mean you're trapped in a resort zone. Grab makes Han River, Son Tra, and most of central Da Nang straightforward from My Khe.

An Thuong

Choose An Thuong if your priority is walking out the door and immediately finding coffee, breakfast, international and Vietnamese food, bars, massage, nightlife. An Thuong and My Khe overlap heavily as a visitor experience. The eastern edge of An Thuong gives you both beach and food within a short walk. This isn't a dramatic either/or.

Han River / Hai Chau

Dragon Bridge, Bach Dang waterfront, the covered central market, rooftop bars, and the Vietnamese city experience. Hotels here suit city-first travellers. You're 15 minutes from the beach by Grab. For a beach-focused first trip, we'd still choose My Khe. For someone who wants the city over the sand, Han River makes more sense.

Non Nuoc resort corridor
Best for Resorts

Non Nuoc Beach

The full-scale resort corridor south of the Marble Mountains. Hyatt Regency, Furama, and Marriott anchor this strip. The beach is excellent and quieter than My Khe. The trade-off: you're 20 minutes from An Thuong by Grab for every meal out. Strong choice when the resort itself is the vacation, especially for couples and families who will mostly stay on-property.

Best Quiet Alternative

South Son Tra

The southern entry point to Son Tra Peninsula. Calmer atmosphere, beach access, less of the An Thuong noise. Still reasonably connected -- 20-25 minutes by Grab to An Thuong. A good compromise for couples who want something quieter than the My Khe strip without committing to full isolation. Premier Village Da Nang Resort anchors this end of the peninsula.

Best for Getting Away

North Son Tra

The far end of the peninsula. Scenery, nature, seclusion, destination resorts. InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula is carved into a clifftop above the South China Sea. It is deliberately isolated and that is the product. Getting to An Thuong takes 30-40 minutes. This is not our recommendation for someone planning to explore the city every day. You're choosing escape over convenience.

If My Khe isn't for you

My Khe suits most first-time visitors because it stacks beach, food, nightlife, and hotel variety in one walkable zone. There are legitimate reasons to look elsewhere. If your trip is primarily sightseeing with no strong beach agenda, Han River cuts your Grab rides in half. If you want a full resort stay where you rarely leave the property, Non Nuoc is better value than the comparable My Khe tier. If you're celebrating something and budget isn't the main variable, InterContinental Sun Peninsula is in a category by itself. What doesn't make sense for a first trip: North Son Tra as a general base, or anything far south of Non Nuoc without a specific reason to be there.

My Khe vs An Thuong

My Khe
  • Beach first
  • Ocean views from hotel
  • Sunrise over water
  • Biggest hotel selection
  • Easy first trip
  • An Thuong on a 5-minute walk
An Thuong
  • Restaurants first
  • Cafes and bars on your doorstep
  • Nightlife within walking
  • Longer-stay feel
  • Beach a 5-minute walk
  • Better value per dollar on hotels
Our Take
For most first trips: My Khe. If you care more about walking to restaurants and bars than having an ocean view right outside: An Thuong. If possible, stay near where the two meet.

My Khe vs Han River

My Khe
  • Beach vacation feel
  • Sunrise over ocean
  • Wide resort and hotel choice
  • An Thuong food and nightlife nearby
  • 15 minutes to Han River by Grab
Han River
  • City atmosphere
  • Dragon Bridge, Bach Dang
  • Rooftop bars with river views
  • Urban Vietnamese feel
  • 15 minutes to beach by Grab
Our Take
Vacation first? My Khe.   City first? Han River. The Grab ride between them is cheap enough that you don't lose much either way.

What We'd Tell a Friend Before Their First Trip

Short, practical, no filler.

Grab

Use it. It's cheap, easy, and removes any need to obsess over location. My Khe to Han River is around 40,000 VND and fifteen minutes.

Walking

Walk within your neighbourhood. Grab between neighbourhoods. An Thuong is walkable from My Khe. The Han River waterfront is not.

Beach

My Khe is the easiest for most first trips. Clean, long, good for swimming. Non Nuoc is quieter but 20 minutes from the city.

Hoi An

Treat it as a day trip from Da Nang. 45 minutes by Grab, about 200,000 VND one way. Not a reason to stay south of the city.

Dragon Bridge

Visit it. You don't need to stay beside it. The fire show runs Friday and Saturday nights at 9pm. Walk to Bach Dang, watch it, Grab home.

Airport

Da Nang Airport is 10 minutes from My Khe, 15 from Han River. Airport proximity should almost never drive your hotel choice.

Scooter

Optional. Not necessary for a first trip. Grab removes the need entirely. Rent one later if you want to explore Son Tra or the hills.

Son Tra

Visit for Lady Buddha, viewpoints, and Monkey Mountain. Go on a morning excursion. You don't need to base there to see it.

Common First-Timer Questions

My Khe Beach. Beach outside your door, the biggest hotel selection in Da Nang, An Thuong restaurants a five-minute walk away, and Grab to everything else. It's the simplest and best base for most first-time leisure visitors. If your priority is city sightseeing with no beach agenda, Han River is the alternative.
My Khe is the beach strip along Vo Nguyen Giap. An Thuong is the dense network of streets immediately behind it, packed with restaurants, bars, and cafes. They are adjacent. Staying at a My Khe beachfront hotel gives you An Thuong on a five-minute walk. This isn't a dramatic either/or -- a beachfront hotel at My Khe gives you both.
If your trip is primarily resort and beach with little city agenda, yes. The Hyatt Regency, Furama, and Marriott are strong options here and the beach is excellent. The trade-off is 20 minutes from An Thuong by Grab every time you want a meal out. If you want to explore the city, My Khe keeps you much closer.
No. Grab is reliable, cheap, and covers every main area. A My Khe to Han River ride is around 35,000-50,000 VND. For a first trip, Grab removes any need to worry about location. Rent a scooter later if you want to explore Son Tra or areas outside the city.
About 30 km south, 40-50 minutes by Grab. Expect 180,000-220,000 VND one way. It works perfectly as a day trip from any Da Nang base, including My Khe. You don't need to stay in Hoi An to see the Old Town.
Good to visit, not ideal as a base for someone who wants to explore the city. InterContinental and Premier Village are exceptional resorts, but you're isolated from restaurants and nightlife. Visit Son Tra on a day excursion -- Lady Buddha, Monkey Mountain, the viewpoints -- and stay at My Khe.
