The Case for a City Hotel
The Grand Mercure is three kilometres from Da Nang International Airport. Eight minutes by Grab.
Dragon Bridge is a five-minute walk and Han Market is ten minutes on foot. The location is about as central as Da Nang gets, and for guests who are actually going to use the city — eat at street food stalls, visit the Cham Museum, explore the riverfront, do a day trip to Hoi An — this removes more logistical friction than any beach resort position can compensate for.
My Khe Beach is 10 minutes by Grab. That's accessible, not prohibitive.
For a trip that's genuinely city-focused with beach visits as a feature rather than the structure of every day, the Grand Mercure's calculation works better than it might sound.
The Rooms
Rooms run 32-45 square metres with Grand Mercure's contemporary regional design language — local art and craft elements incorporated alongside modern fixtures. Upper floors deliver Han River and city views that reward the upgrade.
Executive floor rooms add lounge access with complimentary breakfast and evening canapes, which changes the value calculation notably for business stays or longer leisure visits.
Cleanliness and room maintenance are consistently cited as strong points in guest reviews. The design doesn't try to be distinctive; what it does is maintain standard carefully.
After a week you notice this more than you would after one night.
Breakfast and Eating Out
The main restaurant runs a solid international buffet breakfast and Vietnamese à la carte. It's competent rather than exceptional.
Most guests are outside the hotel for dinner — the surrounding streets have restaurants at every price point and quality level, and the Han River waterfront options are 10 minutes on foot. This is the structural advantage of staying in the city centre: you don't need the hotel's restaurant to be great.
The Rooftop Pool
A rooftop pool with city views, compact but functional and atmospheric at the right time of day. This is not a resort pool.
It's a city hotel pool that's significantly more enjoyable at sunset with a drink than during peak afternoon swimming hours. Manage expectations on size; enjoy it for what it is.
What to Know Before You Book
3 km from the airport is the single most useful fact about this hotel. If you have an early morning flight or a late arrival, you'll think about this repeatedly.
Dragon Bridge fire breathing on Friday and Saturday evenings is a five-minute walk away. Hoi An is 30 minutes by car.
Accor ALL members earn here at a quality level that makes the points accumulate meaningfully.
- 3 km from airport — the most useful proximity for frequent travellers

- Rooms clean and consistently maintained
- Accor ALL loyalty value at a quality property
- Executive lounge upgrade genuinely improves longer stays

- On-site dining is competent; the surrounding streets are better
- Evening noise from the surrounding streets on some floors
Would I Stay Again?
For a city-focused trip, yes. The Grand Mercure does exactly what a city centre hotel should do: keep you close to everything, sleep you comfortably, feed you adequately at breakfast, and stay out of the way while you explore.
When the airport is 3 km away and Dragon Bridge is a 5-minute walk, the hotel doesn't need to be more than that.

Is the Grand Mercure Danang Worth It?
The Grand Mercure Danang is Da Nang's best city-centre hotel option for travellers who want genuine luxury in a non-beach location. Its Han River position gives it views that rival far more expensive properties, and the facilities, rooftop pool, spa, multiple restaurants, are strong for a city hotel at this price point.
Compared to the Novotel Han River, it offers a step up in room quality and design. Compared to My Khe Beach resorts, the trade-off is no direct beach access, replaced by urban convenience and city views.
For business travellers, cultural visitors, and those who want to be walking distance from Da Nang's restaurants and markets, it is excellent value and one of the most under-appreciated hotels in the city.
Nearby Attractions & Getting Around
One of Da Nang's advantages as a destination is how compact it is, most major attractions are within 20–30 minutes of any hotel in the city. From Grand Mercure Danang, key landmarks and beaches are easy to reach by taxi or GrabCar, and both services are reliable, metered, and inexpensive by international standards.
- Han River Waterfront, On-site. Directly on the river, Dragon Bridge and city views from most rooms.
- Dragon Bridge, 5 min walk. The city's most iconic landmark is an easy stroll from the hotel.
- Han Market, 10 min walk. Da Nang's main market for local produce, street food, and textiles.
- Da Nang Cathedral, 10 min walk. The famous pink cathedral, a city landmark.
- My Khe Beach, 10 min taxi. The main beach is easily accessible by taxi.
- Hoi An Ancient Town, 30 min by car. Easy day trip, the hotel's concierge can arrange transfers.
